Yes, the inviting fragrance of scented candles brings joy and inner pleasure. In fact, many designers make use of candles as decors. Elegance and serenity are given real form with the help of these fragrant candles. A room also becomes livelier and pleasant as lovely scents make themselves smelled and known.

So, what are the steps on how to make scented candles? Here are some of the basic tips and rules.

Melt the paraffin wax. Be careful in doing so and never attempt to do your wax mixture using high temperature. It is advisable to use a double boiler in melting your wax.

Once you have completely melted your wax, then it is time to add the scent. It is also recommended to add an ounce of fragrance oil per pound of wax. It is also best if you would not overdo your fragrance. Besides, you do not want to ruin your mixture by adding too much.

Variety is also a key element if you want to know how to make scented candles from scratch. Aside from taking risks in terms of essential oils and chosen fragrance, it also pays to deliver good results by means of adding color to every candle batch.

Kids, in particular, love seeing attractive colors along with funny shapes and size. With this in mind, you can try creating watermelon-shaped candles that also emit a similar fruity fragrance.

After adding the scent, it is now time to add the dye. Liquid dyes are the ones mostly used by beginners, as it is easier to control and define. More so, it is a great replacement to dye chips or blocks.

Once the wax mixture is complete, it is now time to pour the wax into their respective containers. You can go for hard plastic or glass. However, for a nicer and cleaner finished product, it is best if you would choose glass molds and containers.

Purchasing pre tabbed wicks is also beneficial for starters. All you have to do is place your pre tabbed wick inside chosen molds, let the finished candles to cool and you are all set.

This 5-step guide proves helpful for beginners. It provides many with various details regarding candle making. For those who really want to know how to make scented candles, it is advisable to start early and continually learn.
There are specific instructions in making scented candles. With materials such as paraffin and candle molds, making scented candles is no longer a chore. In fact, the steps can be acquired by referring to sites online. You can also decide on having a starting candle kit as a way of minimizing expenses and cost.

In making scented candles, you will need a number of materials such as paraffin wax, candle molds, wicks, stove, double boiler, dye, essential oils, and thermometer. You might also need a wick holder, stirrer, weighing scale and polyethylene.

After buying the needed materials, you need to do the following procedures.

1. Set up your chosen mold. You have basically a number of choices. You can choose to have metal, glass or silicon rubber molds. If you prefer the metal mold, it is best to choose one with a wider opening and it is also important to coat the mold using vegetable oil.

2. Prepare the wick. Make sure to consider the diameter of the candle in determining or adjusting the proper size of wick. Roughly, there is an available estimate used by candle makers. For example, for candles whose diameter is relatively one inch, the best types to use would be 12-15 ply wicks.

3. Melt the paraffin wax. Combine 90 parts of paraffin with 10 parts of polyethylene wax. Place the mixture in the double boiler. Remember not to melt the wax under direct heat. In making scented candles, it is also a must to choose a work area that is well-ventilated.

4. Wait for the entire wax mixture to melt. Once done, let the mixture cool before adding your desired color and scent. Continuously stir.

5. Pour in your mixture to pre-set containers. Make sure to leave a little bit of space at the top of each mold.

6. Place the wick right at the center of each mold or container. Use a bamboo stick in securing the wick’s ends. This procedure will relatively help in centering your wicks while cooling your candles.

7. Remove the candles from their respective molds. For easier handling, immerse the molds in hot water for a couple of seconds. This procedure, meanwhile, is advisable if you are having some hard time in sliding out your candles from their containers.

Easy steps and instructions await beginners in making scented candles. By fully utilizing every known resource, you can start your own candle business. You can also initiate this project by following these tips and practically, earn a living out of this simple and very basic project.

Scented candles add a certain amount of elegance to a room. The candlelight from any candle gives the room a romantic feeling. However, when a fragrance is added to the room through a scented candle, the elegance of the room grows.

You can use fragrance oil that is available at most craft stores or online for your scented candles. It is better to use oil rather then a water-bases or alcohol-based perfume in wax because most waxes are close to oil in their chemical composition. Water and oil do not mix. So, by using water-based perfumes, the liquid will simply float to the bottom of your melted wax.

The wonderful thing about scented candles is that the fragrance is noticed even when the candle is not lit. They make wonderful gifts and are appreciated even more when they are handmade. The process of making scented candles is the same as making regular candles. You will need to consider which kind of wax you are going to use. There are several kinds of wax that are available today. There are natural waxes like soy, palm, or beeswax. There is also paraffin wax which is your basic wax that most candles are made of and there are also gel candles. Both of these types of wax can be used to make scented candles also. Although, with gel candles, you have to consider how much fragrance you are planning to use before you choose your wax. Gel wax with a lesser density can not hold as much fragrance as gel wax with a higher density.

In order to make any type of candle, you have to first melt the wax before you can pour it into your candle mold. You have to use a double boiler to melt the wax. Place a smaller pot that has the wax in it into a larger pot that is filled with water. Be careful not to put the temperature of the stovetop too high because wax can burn. You can use a thermometer and heat the wax to be around 170-180 degrees. Add the wick to the mold. After the wax is melted, you can remove it from the heat source. It is now time to add the fragrance oil. You can add one ounce of fragrance oil to one pound of wax. This will give you a 6% fragrance concentration. Make sure that you do not add too much fragrance. Although it may seem like the more fragrance the better, this is not always the case. Certain problems can arise from using too much fragrance. One thing that could happen is that the candle will not burn properly because of the higher concentration of liquid. You might end up with pools of liquid in the candle. You can always experiment with you candle making. You can keep records of how much fragrance you use to how much wax and find you own scented candle recipe.

Using things like scents and colors gives you much more variety of the things that you can create in your candle making. Wouldn’t it be great to be able to give a loved one a gift of a candle with the essence of relaxation and a calming sent to go along with it? Now that you understand a little bit more about how to make scented candles, you can do it.
