3. Trim your milk carton by getting rid of the upper part or top. Make sure that the length of your carton box is around six inches long. Proceed with the package string and cut it at approximately same length.
4. Melt the wax over medium heat using your double boiler. There is said to be an ideal ratio when it comes to learning how to make candles from scratch using old crayons. Use three quarters of paraffin for smaller candles, but if you want to produce larger ones, you can try using the entire pound of paraffin as your mixture or base. This process lasts for 10 to 15 minutes.
5. Make sure that you break your old crayons into small pieces. Add them into melted paraffin. After which, dip the string into the mixture and place it at the center of the box. Hold the string while pouring your ice cubes into the carton, to keep it straight. Finally, pour the melted mixture until the carton is filled.
6. Let it cool for around 30 minutes. For someone who is starting to learn how to make candles from scratch, it is advisable to set your candles for an estimated one or two hours. Once the cubes have finally melted, you can now start peeling off the carton to reveal your finished product. Drying of candles also takes a day or two.
